Invest in relationships.

We recently moved 30 minutes away from the house we lived in for three years. We were fortunate to have wonderful neighbors (on one side – don’t get me started about the other neighbors). On one of our last nights in that house, we went to dinner with our cool neighbors on a whim. The wait was long and the food was delicious but over-priced. I’m glad we did it… and I wish we had done it more often in those three years.

My advice for today is: INVEST IN RELATIONSHIPS. It’s so easy to get busy with our day-to-day routines. Days, weeks, months will disappear quickly and we’re left wondering where time has gone. So, make a point to invest in relationships. Go to dinner on a whim. Watch sunsets together. Know your neighbors and make them your friends. Take time to recognize friends’ birthdays. Remember the names of their kids and pets. Discover what makes them happy and do those things for them. Realize what makes them sad and be there for them when their hearts are broken. Seize opportunities to develop intimacy. Be intentional about creating our history. Celebrate life together.

Because when we face the end of our lives, we’ll be full of regret if our memories consist of only running errands, cleaning up the kitchen, doing laundry, and scrubbing toilets.

Shep & Heather… we love you guys!

I know what you mean. As we approach our 30minute move across the bridge, and as we are getting ready for end of school year programs and ballet recitals, a friend of mine from my kid’s school and ballet class whom is MY AGE and with a 2yr and 4yr OLD GIRLS like me has been battling cancer. . . and I didn’t know it. She is up north right now undergoing treatment again. She is sooo sweet and caring and never is down, but I haven’t taken the time to get to know her better yet to have been there for her and I wish I had already done that… she just lives down the street. I will now.

Because this is such a great reminder that we all need to slow down and enjoy and cherish our time with each other
