Tragedy averted.

July 5, 2008

Independence Day is my favorite holiday, but tonight it was almost my worst nightmare.

The evening started out awesome. We went over to our good friends’ home, which is located on one of the canals leading into the Destin harbor. A great spread of food was prepared… chicken wings, chicken salad, seven layer salad, pasta salad, chips, salsa, banana pudding, etc. We ate, laughed, listened to good music, watched boats go by… it was fantastic. It was the perfect beginning to a fun-filled evening.

The sun was starting to set, so we all grabbed our stuff and started walking to the beach. We had a large group (like, 30+ people). I took this picture just before it happened:

See my daughter in the pink shirt and black shorts? Just moments after I took this picture, she attempted to cross the street. She looked, she started crossing, and – bam! – just like that, a car hit her. This is something you never want to see, especially when it’s your child. All I can say is that God is amazing. She walked away like nothing had ever happened. From the way the car hit her, I’m still wondering how it’s possible that her leg didn’t break. She doesn’t even have a scratch! Unbelievable! God is so good.

Shaken up but ready for the show, our posse continued on. We set up our chairs and blankets right by the water in the Destin pass. Don’t be jealous:

The fireworks started at 9:00 and I loved every second:

Noah James slept through the entire thing:

I love this holiday and I’m so thankful my daughter is okay!

HOW did I miss this? That first shot of you is so hot.

And I’m so thankful you didn’t have to experience what I went through. Ugh. Thank God Taylor is okay.
