A real jewel.
I met Julia in early 2002. We had invited her and Nate over for dinner because we had to meet the woman who rocked his world. They announced they were getting married that summer and asked us to be in their wedding party. Andy and Nate had been buddies long before puberty, so it was a logical choice for him. At the time, I felt I was picked by default because Andy and I were married.
It wasn’t until several years later that my friendship with Julia became something more than superficial. When Nate and Julia started having issues in their marriage, our friendship really started to develop… yet we were living five hours apart! A lot of tears, prayers, and believing took place over the past couple years. However, I am happy to report that their marriage is in the process of being fully restored.
Sometimes being a bridesmaid isn’t just about wearing the dress the bride selects or giving a toast at the reception. Sometimes it becomes the role of standing by your friend when the good times turn bad and being by their side as they venture down the road of restoration. I’m so proud of Julia for sticking it out and for not giving up. She fought for something worth fighting for, when it would have been easier to just walk away.
I love you, Julz, and I look forward to seeing what else God has in store for you through the years. Happy birthday and here’s to your marriage!
