question of the day (name meaning)

January 9, 2009
by Lori

My friend Julia (a.k.a. Julz) talked about name meaning on her blog, which got me thinking. Intrigued, I decided to research our family members’ names once again.

Andrew James - Andrew means manly. Yes, I totally agree. Look at him, for God’s sake. James means one who succeeds. I consider him successful, so I agree with this one, too.

Lori Ann – Lori means laurel. Um, I like flowers? Ann means gracious. I suppose I can see that.

Taylor Christine – Taylor means, well, tailor. She does have a lot of style. Christine means follower of Christ. I think that’s very appropriate.

Nathan Andrew – Nathan means he gave, which is accurate because he’s a giving child. Andrew means manly. Anyone who knows Nathan is probably chuckling right now!

Noah James – Noah means rest and comfort, which is appropriate because he’s a calm baby. James means one who succeeds. I do have high hopes for his success!

What does your name mean? (Click here to search.) Do you think it fits you?

My name definitely fits me. I don’t even have to look it up…I already know this one!

Lisa, derivative of Elizabeth: Consecrated to God.

Ann, which I not-so-secretly wish had an e on the end of it: Full of grace.

Shannon Lance – “old wise river” (Shannon is a river in Ireland) and lance is literal.

Leah Rochelle – “weary one” and “little rock” (before my parents got hip to names with meaning)

Ella Jade – “bright light” and Jade is the literal vietnamese translation of Ngoc.
