Poor Advertising
Did you miss me? That may have been my longest blogging break ever. We went on vacation, a rare occasion for our homebody family. I’ll split the vacation recap over several posts so your precious heads don’t explode when I blog your face off. In the meantime, I wanted to share two examples of what I consider poor advertising.
First, I was flipping through a new local magazine and this ad caught my eye:

Do you see what stopped me in my tracks? Let’s zoom in, shall we?

I would like to know how the incorrect form of “its” made it past the editor. Although typos bother me to no end, I’m sure I’ve had a few mistakes on this blog. But this is a blog, not a magazine. And editors are hired to avoid embarrassing mistakes such as this. Tsk, tsk. The shame!
Second, while on vacation I was flipping through the phone book and stumbled upon this ad:

Without getting into a heated pro-life vs pro-choice debate (don’t even try it, people – I won’t approve your comments), does this ad strike you as odd? For example, they’re offering late term abortions. Now, honestly… do you think any girl/women who is either contemplating a late term abortion or just went through the procedure, is all smiles and kickin’ it at the beach with her girls? Really? To me, the picture doesn’t fit the ad. Like, at all.
I know, right? I see mistakes in print all the time. Maybe I notice it more because I learned English as a second language, but it bugs me to no end.
I’m currently reading several books/magazines at one time, a really bad habit for a person who doesn’t multitask well. One of the books is “Eats, Shoots and Leaves” by Lynne Truss. You gotta check it out!
I’m awful about missing typos when I proofread. I hate finding typos in OLD posts. It means the whole world thinks I have no standards for spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc. Ok, not the whole world…just the teeny part of it that visits my blog.
That ad is awful. Terrible. Makes me sick.
Gross ad. It’s crazy how screwed up our ideas of ‘normal’ and ‘acceptable’ have gotten.
