Baby Jonah is home!
I had high hopes of being able to live blog the birth of my baby, but unfortunately the hospital’s firewall prevented me from doing so. I was able to twitter the entire day, but only those following me were privy to such exciting details. I’ll do my best to give you a summary of the day.
Right now I’m sitting at home, trying to let it sink in that I now have four beautiful, healthy children. What did I do to deserve such blessings? Taylor and Nathan are playing with friends, Andy’s outside playing with Noah, and Jonah is sleeping in the bassinet next to me. I already did the right thing and chose a nap over anything else when I got home from the hospital. Right now I feel lucky to have found time to blog. I’m hoping Jonah sleeps long enough for me to finish this post.
I wrote my last post about an hour before leaving the house Saturday morning. I don’t think Andy believed me that I was in labor. I don’t blame him. I hardly believed it myself. After all, it was 19 days before my due date. Just because you want your baby born by a certain date, doesn’t mean you can hope it into existence. But I felt like God had given me the scripture “you have not because you ask not,” which was honestly the only reason I believed labor wasn’t false. Although consistent, the contractions didn’t hurt at all. I had two reasons for going to the hospital when I did. First, I hoped my doctor would feel sorry for me and break my water. Second, when I was in labor with Noah, everything was fine and then went into “my head is spinning with pain” within about 5 minutes, so I wanted to prevent that from happening again. We dropped off our three kids at my mom’s house around 9:45 am.
I arrived at the hospital shortly after 10:00 am. They checked me and I was still only 1 cm, but the monitors did confirm contractions were consistently 3 minutes apart. They officially admitted me around noon when I was 4 cm. As per hospital policy, I had to wait on lab results before getting my epidural. I finally got one somewhere around 1:30 or 2:00 and everything was wonderful again. I experienced pain for less than an hour. Praise the Lord!
After receiving my epidural, my doctor broke my water. By 2:45 pm, contractions were 2 minutes apart but I was still only 4 cm. Andy and I were both starving. I couldn’t eat while in labor, so I sent him to get something to eat while he had the opportunity. I think he left right at 3:00 pm.
At 3:29, they checked me and I had progressed to 8 cm and was 100% effaced. That was fast! I texted Andy and told him to hurry back, but he was already in the parking lot when he got my message.
Just 8 minutes later, at 3:37, I called the nurse and told her I felt like I needed to push. She checked me and, sure enough, I was 10 cm! We waited for my doctor to get to the room before I started pushing. With one contraction and 4 pushes, he was born at 3:46 pm! He was 7 lbs 2 oz and 20 inches long (exact same measurements as Noah).
Jonah is so awesome and I feel beyond blessed to have been given the gift of another child. Thank you, God!

Less than one hour old, holding Mama’s hand.

Another baby, another brother. Been there, done that. Sigh.

Today Nathan said to his friend Lauren, “See, I told you he was even cuter than Noah!” Oh, goodness. How do you respond to that? Ha ha!

I can’t believe I have three sons!

Noah isn’t using words, of course, but he can’t stop smiling at Jonah. He’ll be a great big brother, too.

Jonah was more alert than I was early this morning!

He is so precious!

Awake time doesn’t last long!

Daddy has another clone!
Watch these two videos. Doesn’t Jonah look like Noah?!
