10 Things I Like About You

November 11, 2009

1. You can say stuff like “I can make fun of fat people because I are one” and get away with it.

2. Your description of the O roll at Harbor Docks.

3. How you consider flip-flops your dress shoes, even when you’re preaching or officiating a wedding.

4. Pretty much everything you say when your filter (a.k.a. Darlene) isn’t sitting in the front row at church.

5. How you can be the funniest person I’ve ever known…

6. And then not be afraid to show your sensitive side.

7. You’re an ENFJ, so I totally get where you’re coming from.

8. When you laugh really hard and your face turns red. This always happens after you’ve said something naughty.

9. When you start talking about church stuff and you get all choked up and your voice cracks and you get tears. So sweet.

10. How you’re an inspiration to everyone around you.

Happy birthday to my most favorite preacher man ever!

The first time I ever talked to you wasn’t my finest hour and you stayed on the phone with me for a long time and encouraged the hell out of me… literally. Happy Birthday to someone I consider to be one of the few I can come to with anything and not be put off by my junk but continue to focus on my heart. It’s a rare thing in this world and I love you for it:)

      Happy Birthday Pastor Eric!
Thanks for all the “investing” you and Darlene did in my life as a teen! You taught me that “cool” and “christian” could be used in the same sentence. You and Darly are the epitome of cool! Thanks for investing you’ve done in mine and Chris’ relationship. I will NEVER forget when Chris and I came to you when we needed some accountability in our dating relationship, and I was super scared, but pleasently surprised at how sweet, and compassionate you and Darlene were towards us, and that you didn’t treat us like the plague b/c we were needing help. I’m so grateful to have had you marry Chris and I on Feb. 23, 2002. You are such a special person in our lives!!! You helped shape me, even if that meant being corrected, like at summer camp when I, along with Carrie W. and Jill, got into trouble for sneaking out to the boys cabin area. I felt sooooooooo terrible for making you tear up when you corrected us. You are a fantastic leader and a great friend! And we will forever be grateful for you in our lives!

      Love,
      Leigh Ann

Eric-You have the wonderful ability to make people feel comfortable. You reach your hand every chance you get to try and connect people with God. You called Marty’s name out at a service last Christmas and led him to make a prayer that changed our lives. You have GREAT taste in music. You don’t care what kind of past anyone might have but accept them for who they are now. You have excellent taste in beer. Your sense of humor totally cracks me up! You are married to your best friend/filter/partner in crime and always make sure everyone knows how proud you are to call her your wife! You are the same person at my dinner table as you are in church on Sunday. You have helped me to see that God has already forgiven me; I need to forgive myself.

Happy Birthday! It’s going to be a great year!

      Pastor Eric,

Words can hardly express how much we love and appreciate you. You have such a heart for God and you have been so true to the calling that’s been put in your heart. You are the most refreshingly real pastor we have ever known and truly a representative of Christ. Yes, you have a few screws loose which makes us love you all the more — makes us feel right at home!! Our whole family’s lives are changed for the better because of you and the incredible Shoreline ministry. Happy birthday brother, you are such a blessing to us!!

I love that I can never quite trust you to behave yourself in front of a crowd, and yet I can always trust you to offer respect, kindness, and encouragement to an individual. That’s good stuff. :)

      Happy Birthday, Eric.

Thank you Pastor Eric for all that you have done and continue to do for my family. You are such an inspiring and giving person. I know that God brought Sam and I to Destin to learn under one of the best teachers in how to do ministry with the focus on people, love and mercy. Love you Pastor Eric! You’re the best!

      Hi Eric
Best wishes! Your birthday is a perfect time to go for some improvement, so I was thinking about a possible A3 for you–
Plan: Have fun on my birthday.
Do: Have fun on my birthday.
Check: Did I have enough fun on my birthday?
Adjust: Keep having fun on my birthday!
I hope this helps and that you can give this to Darlene as your elevator pitch!

It is an honor to know you! Thanks for being such a great pastor!
      In Christ,
      Shannon

Happy b-day Pastor Eric!! I love that you love people that don’t love themselves. I love that you see through to the heart — and you share yours. I love that you listened to me whine about how hard it is to be a parent of a strong-willed kid, and you just kept nodding your head. I love that you baptized that same strong-willed kid in the Bay this summer. I love that you make a difference — in our lives; in Destin; in the world. So Happy Birthday … keep ‘em coming!

Not sure what to write after reading all those post. You are a great person and I know God brought you back to Destin to do exactly what you are doing. Bring people like me closer to him. There is not a day that goes by that I dont think about how much Shoreline has changed my life and I find myself waiting for Sundays more then any other day of the week. You have touched so many lives and thank you doesnt even come close…you inspire me and all those around you…so stand tall….stand proud …even if you are 50 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Hey Pastor Airwic,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I still have like 23 minutes before your birthday is over! Glad I made it. I have been sitting here trying to think of a way to write how much I appreciate you so that you could truly know how much I do appreciate all that you have done for me over the past few years. However, the words aren’t coming to me. You are far better than awesome and great. You helped me through some of my biggest milestones in my life like moving hundreds of miles from my family, getting married, helping me deal with my family since I moved so far from them! I am so sad I moved from Destin today, but I am glad I can watch you online. I am very blessed to have met you and call you my pastor and friend. I love you very much dad! Thanks a million for everything. You are wonderful. Hope your birthday was phenomenal .

      Lots of love,

      Pastor Eric -

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I made it with 1 minute to spare! Phew!

How do I begin…the second that I stepped foot into Shoreline Church, I knew I was home. As a leader, you have shown me what it means to love unconditionally, to accept & treasure others for where they are right at that moment, to be honest with God, myself and others, to stay true to my convictions and to serve without expectation of something in return. And although, I am never perfect in these areas…I know you will still accept me even when I fail! I have seen you demonstrate each of these qualities EVERY time I hang out with you and with EVERYONE you meet. God has given you an incredible gift of relating to this world in a uniquely quirky way and we are all blessed because of it!

Hope you know this today and always! God is doing BIG things and can’t wait to see where he takes you and our church!

To sum it up: Beneath the clothes, we find a man… and beneath the man, we find his… nucleus. Nuf said!

We live in Ohio and have been down a few times to hang with the Saczynskis. You welcome us into your church with open arms and make us feel as if we’ve belonged there forever. You’re doing a great thing at Shoreline, and you’re touching the lives of people from all over the place.
