The Waiting Game
I didn’t have medical insurance when I was pregnant with Taylor. I had a “required” ultrasound at ten weeks to determine how far along I was. An additional ultrasound to find out the sex of the baby would’ve been $300. Since I was already paying so much for prenatal care and eventually delivery, I felt that was an added expense I couldn’t justify. So we found out the sex of our baby about one second after she crawled through the escape hatch was born.
We found out the sex of each boy about halfway through the pregnancies.
Having done it both ways, waiting vs not, I admit it’s far more exciting to find out on delivery day. Yes, the waiting game can make you CRAZY, but that’s part of the fun!
It’s like when you’re a kid and Christmas is approaching. You see the wrapped gifts under the tree and the anticipation nearly kills you, but it’s so much fun to have the surprises on Christmas morning. When you sneak some wrapped gifts into the guest room closet, carefully break the tape’s seal, check out the goods, and then re-attach the tape as to not have your parents bust you, it’s a bit of a letdown. I mean, getting that Cabbage Patch doll Christmas morning was still awesome, but the element of surprise was gone. Not that I did that. Okay, I totally did that. I still remember her name: Cleo Diane. She was the first of seven Cabbage Patch dolls that were in my collection, because I was a spoiled brat loved by my parents.
Rabbit trail. Sorry.
Assuming Baby # 5 cooperates, we should find out the sex next week. While I know the surprise would be greater if we waited until late October or early November, I’m way too antsy to wait that long. Besides, I’m a planner. I need to shuffle kids and decorate rooms, neither of which would be even remotely fun with that many kids demanding my attention.
Any guesses? Boy or girl? Hot dog or hamburger?

I’m leaning toward a girl this time. But if you have a girl, I shudder to think what sort of bruiser she’ll be, what with growing up with two brothers only slightly older than she is!
have you tried the chinese gender calendars before? I have, and was correct w/ all 5 of ours!
Stephanie, I have! http://seriouslybecause.com/2010/01/31/chinese-gender-prediction-chart/
I didn’t know that chinese calender is accurate. I would love to try that too..
Girl. All the way.
either way is exciting, but for me, if you have a girl I might swoop in…just sayin
Totally a girl !!!
