I am an aunt.
How do you pronounce aunt? I say it like ant. Anyway…

Some of my step-brothers have kids. It’s not that I don’t claim them as my nieces and nephews, but it’s different when it’s a blood relation, you know? It’s almost like a piece of you is in them, even though they aren’t your child.

I became an aunt in October 2007 when my niece Ava was born. She’s the daughter of my brother David and his wife Valerie.

I love being an aunt. I wish I could see her more regularly, but I do try to make the most of the 2-3 visits we have each year. Right now they live almost 8 hours away. They’re planning to eventually move to Knoxville, which is almost 9 hours away.

Ava is sweet and smart. I’m glad she’s my niece!

I can’t wait to have more nieces and nephews.
