Halloween Recap

November 1, 2010

Is anyone else in total disbelief that it’s already November? Maybe it’s because I was focused on having a baby throughout October. Or maybe it’s because it’s still in the 80s here. Anyway…

So, last night was Halloween. I’ve eaten about 50+ pieces of candy in the past 24 hours. Good thing I’m nursing, which is a fantastic weight-loss method.

We had an unofficial block party at Wes and Jen’s house across the street. It was actually much cooler than this photo lets on. Once it got dark, the tent was glowing with Christmas Halloween lights. Andy put his speakers in our driveway, so everyone within a mile could hear some reggae beats. And of course we had good food.

Jen’s family carved pumpkins, as most families do.

As per our family’s tradition, Andy carved a watermelon. He actually carved a pumpkin, too. I attempted to make pumpkin bread for the second year in a row. At least this year I bought the ingredients, which is more than I can say for last year. But my bread was the consistency of fudge. Note to self: all-purpose flour and self-rising flour are entirely different.

Noah’s best buddy Braiden dressed up as Spiderman.

Noah dressed up as… Noah. He absolutely refused to put on his costume. Maybe he was ticked because it was the same chicken costume he wore last year. Whatever the reason, I didn’t care, nor did he. Noah didn’t even want to go trick-or-treating. He just wanted to eat OUR candy. No, I didn’t monitor his candy consumption. Let’s just say his behavior was similar to how one might expect him to react to drinking a Red Bull.

Noah said the sky looked like strawberry milk. The sugar rush may have caused him to hallucinate.

Nathan was a fireman/stripper. Actually, he was just a fireman. But he got hot in his costume. Sometime around 9:45 pm, he was wearing nothing but boxers at the block party. He *may* have ran in circles with his butt hanging out.

Taylor and her friend Bailey went as hippies. They were cute, but let’s be honest. They put forth minimum effort to get free candy. They are getting too old for this. I think 8th grade is the cutoff for trick-or-treating.

Jonah was the cutest kangaroo ever, but it only lasted about one minute. I didn’t even get a photo of him in his costume. Oh, well.

Josiah did not dress up, but he did nurse about 25 times last night. Sorry, no boob photos.

Some friends attended the party…

Steve and Julianne

Jacquee and John

While other friends stopped by for a short visit…

Lisa

Jeremy

Scott

Sam

Monica and Amy

More friends came by, but (1) I failed to get photos of everyone and (2) I also got sick of resizing photos for this post. It is what it is.

So, 60% of my kids didn’t dress up this Halloween, but whatever. It was a great Halloween! I think the block party is going to have to be a new tradition in our ‘hood.

I agree with the annual tradition idea & kudos on great pics the wonderful food. And let’s just face it, comparatively speaking, its just not the same without you, seriously.
